Weekly Sessions for enrolled students
The following sessions are offered to enrolled students during the school year at no extra charge and is an integral part of the Mi Escuelita curriculum. The sessions all take place at Mi Escuelita during school hours.
Through multicultural exploration of dance, music and language students will develop physical, intellectual and emotional skills to learn how to understand different approaches to culture through movement. They will understand dance as a means of expression and communication and learn how to identify, analyze and verbalize what they observe. They will develop an understanding for the personal and cultural motivations that they are related to. Games, creativity, imagination, motivation, respect, sharing and caring are the base lines for this class.
Tia Gabriela. uses her extensive knowledge in creative movement to create imaginative and fun bilingual classes. She encourages children to use their imagination as they travel to different places and themes combining simple yoga poses with songs and stories in Spanish, providing an opportunity to develop social, sensory and motor skills.
Her most important goal as a teacher is to provide an experience in class where each young student can feel validated as a unique individual with the ability to make choices and celebrate the joy and empowerment of their bodies.
Music class is a time for singing, dancing, moving and playing instruments. During each class, students have the opportunity to sing and play with the group and by themselves. We are learning useful phrases like, “Yo me llamo… Como te llamas tú? Buenos días, buenas tardes, buenas noches” and parts of the body like “manos, cabeza, cara, hombros, pies”. When we use instruments to play songs like “I Am A Fine Musician” and “Five Little Monkeys”, students practice playing and resting as part of the ensemble.
Meditation / Relaxation on a daily basis. Yoga Practice once a week.
As part of our daily routine we encourage the practice of relaxation and meditation as a natural way of motivate awareness . Everyday right before our circle time we sit down/ or lie down and practice for 10- 15 minutes meditation with our lil’ ones.
Also, every week the children join classes and practice an hour of Yoga and slow movement with one or most beloved teachers and professional Yoga instructor , tio Diego.
